Alex started his life and riding career in Ottawa, Canada. From age 14 to 20, Alex competed on the Ontario/Quebec/New York/Calgary Summer circuit, and Wellington/Ocala Winter circuit, up to Grand Prix level, spending time training with Ian Millar, Mario Deslauriers, and Jay Hayes.

After a hiatus from riding, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Ottawa University and some years in an office, Alex returned to riding when he came to New Zealand July 2026, working the competition season with Maurice Beatson, and meeting Kathryn in September. Alex was the lead rider at NZPH for for the following two seasons, before establishing Competitive Jumpers NZ.
